In Home Composting - For the Advanced Composter who wants to Compost year round

Wondering if it might be good to have a section here on other types of composting where the experienced and knowledgable can share what they know & resources with those of us who are still learning. I became frustrated with my composting system this winter when the bin, of course, stopped composting for the winter... rather than suspending things... I looked for methods that could be continued indoors so that valuable composting time wouldn't be lost. But I understand there is an art to all of these things...

Being a newbie, please feel free to correct anything I say -- but my best understanding so far is that one shouldn't really ad cheese, meat and oils to your regular garden compostables... due to readily drawing urban pests with these, as well as possibly arousing irate neighbors with odors...

Indoor, basement or in garage Bokashi fermentation seems to be the only method that advises it is for use with meats, bones, cheeses, oils... This can then be later added to the compost once it has been processed via this fementation process.

Similar to your garden composting, worm composting, (vermiculture) doesn't usually take care of meat, cheeses or oils... BUT it does speed the composting process for your typical compostables, and it can be continued thru the winter in the basement or some other indoor place where the temperature is sufficient..(55 to 70 degrees F). again an art in terms of needing attention and cultivation.

One way to get worms, nab them from your friends the birds:

These will give you all of the info you need to understand vermiculture - why you should bother with it, how to make your own bin and make it work, etc. Good stuff.
